Teaneck is the seventh largest and most populous municipality in Bergen County, Teaneck has a unique blend of cultures, languages, and ethnicity’s. Originally inhabited by Hackensack Indians, it was settled by Dutch Colonists in the 1600’s and incorporated as the township in 1895. It claims some of the oldest homes in America and gained national notoriety in the 1960’s when it became the first community in the county to vote for integrated schools.

Cultural Life & Recreation

The Teaneck Recreation Department provides a wide range of programs for every age group responding to a wide range of interests. The Department prepares a brochure of available programs for each season. Copies are free at the Recreation Department.For the latest available information on programs, call the Department (201-837-7130) weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Recreation Programs
The Department offers an extensive programs of classes on a seasonal basis
Senior Citizens Services Center
The Center is open Monday through Friday, except Township established holidays and other limited times throughout the year
Tennis Court Permits
Student and adult badges are available for purchase at the Recreation Department starting in June of each year
Swimming Pool Badges
Residents must obtain ID badges to use Township owned and operated pools
Summer Concerts
The Teaneck Community Band presents a free outdoor summer band concert series five (5) consecutive Wednesdays at 8:30 PM in Votee Park at the Bandshell, each summer
Movies in the Park
Full length featured films, suitable for family viewing, are offered in Votee Park

The Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenpac) offers world class entertainment just around the corner. The Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) was conceived in the echoing corridors, empty rehearsal rooms and grand performance hall of the former John Harms Center, which closed to the shock and heartbreak of Bergen County’s large community of culture lovers, families and students.In April 2003, a group of concerned citizens, headed by Englewood resident Frank Huttle III, formed bergenPAC and developed a business plan to forge a true public/private partnership, engaging all sectors of the community and bringing together corporations, governments and residents, each adding the committment and support necessary to revitalize this unique arts center.
